Three in custody after firearms discharge in Birmingham city centre
UPDATED:13TH JUNE 2020
We were called shortly before 11.30pm last night (12 June) to reports of a firearms discharge on Hurst Street, Birmingham.
The shot was fired from a VW Polo, which later fled the scene, and the incident was captured on CCTV. Officers immediately flooded the area to progress an investigation.
Enquiries show that the shot was a blank round, fired down an empty street. No one was injured and no buildings have been damaged.
The passengers, who were inside the vehicle at the time, were spotted entering a nearby apartment complex where an 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were subsequently arrested by police on suspicion of firearms offences.
The VW Polo later returned to Hurst Street, and was stopped by firearms officers. The 18-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
The car was seized along with a blank firing handgun, ammunition and casings from the scene, which was cordoned off while forensic investigators carried out an examination.
A number of witnesses have been spoken to and the three people arrested remain in police custody where they will be questioned in due course.
